Digital cultural heritage of the territories:
Who owns memory, what sharing and what sovereignty?
For this annual event, the EVA Paris conference wishes to invite cultural actors to reflect on the tools for developing the digital cultural heritage of territories - communities (regions, departments, inter-communities, communes), taking into account the challenges of Open Data. We hope that the discussions of this day will allow us to develop a real strategy for “digital territory”, “digital heritage”, in the era of Big Data. For example, does each museum have to store its own data or is it up to the authorities, State or local authorities, to create a Data Hub?
In France, a significant effort has been made by the State and its partners to deploy high-speed communications infrastructure. A national program for the digital transformation of territories and administrations is underway. In this context, the development of digital cultural heritage is a crucial subject with regard to sovereignty, the appropriation of collective memory and cultural accessibility.
This development must be part of the strategy of a community or cultural operator to define its digital territory and its networks. The current boom in digital technologies and the digital economy should go hand in hand with a culture of Open Data requiring better access to information and better sharing of cultural data. But what happens when digital heritage becomes coveted capital?
This conference is a place for reflection and exchange which is aimed at actors from the territories and communities concerned by this issue of digital cultural heritage, by the actions carried out for the conservation and promotion of heritage. To address this theme, it will be held in a Micro-Folie installed in a municipal cultural centre, “Le Temps des Cerises”, in Issy-les-Moulineaux, in Île de France. This “proximity cultural platform serving the territories” is a formidable tool for mediation, cultural democratization and the promotion of cultural heritage in digital format. The digital museum forms the core of the Micro-Folies, to which additional modules, fablab, game library, stage, exhibition room, web radio/TV etc. can be added, depending on the location. This day will also be an opportunity to experiment with this tool.
